In Autumn Opera Scenes at Guildhall the outstanding singers and repetiteurs from the first year of Guildhall School's Opera course perform classical and contemporary operatic excerpts with piano accompaniment, which is made into a full length performance with a theme and designed to feature and highlight that theme. Featuring scenes from Mozart's Don Giovanni, Le nozze di Figaro and Die Zauberflöte; Donizetti’s La Favorita; Janáček’s Jenůfa; Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande; Massenet’s Chérubin; Britten’s Albert Herring and Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites. In Die Zauberflöte prince Tamino goes to find a wife. Not knowing anything about what that entails he tries to put any woman he finds in the wedding dress he carries around. On his quest he encounters three ladies. For these "Dames" we played around with deconstructed tailoring to signify the fact that these three live in a world beyond the patriarchy, and attempt to unravel it one step (or seam) at a time.
